Welcome to TriMark E-News

Welcome to Issue #4 of the TriMark e-newsletter. As you read in the last issue of the newsletter, things have been very busy here at TriMark. We reported that we'd attended two major tradeshows and introduced two new products to the marketplace. But, we overlooked communicating one very important message to our customers and friends. We would like to take just a moment to acknowledge all of the messages of concern from our customers and friends regarding this past summer's serious flooding here in Iowa. While the TriMark office and manufacturing facilities remained high and dry, many of our employee/owners had to deal with the ravages of the flooding in their personal lives. Your continued support has had a very positive effect so we wanted to say a very public "thank you."

Six Sigma - Excellence Through Strategic Discipline

In the last issue of the TriMark e-newsletter, we talked about the current situation we face with the increasing cost of the raw materials, which are sourced for the quality TriMark products we provide to our customers worldwide. In the story we mentioned that we employ Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma principles in an effort to be more efficient in our processes, which ultimately helps us minimize any cost increase that we pass along to customers. Several of our customers contacted us and said that they would like to hear more about how we approach these processes. This e-newsletter article will be the first in a series dedicated to sharing our approach (and maybe a few success stories). We hope you will find it of interest, and we encourage you to contact us with comments.

At TriMark, it all starts with an umbrella. Umbrella you ask? Yes, and the umbrella is called Continuous Improvement.

TriMark's Continuous Improvement culture combines two complementary approaches – Lean and Six Sigma. Continuous Improvement efforts at TriMark are known as Six Sigma Excellence and focus on eliminating non-value added activities, reducing variation in all processes, and increasing the ability to meet internal and external customer requirements. TriMark's focus continues to strive towards being a competitive supplier to customers in all markets served.

Blending Lean and Six Sigma; Continuous Improvement (CI) at TriMark.

Because it's possible to reap the benefits of more than one Continuous Improvement methodology, TriMark's approach is to blend Lean and Six Sigma. As you may already be aware, Lean focuses on removing waste while Six Sigma focuses on reducing variation. At TriMark this means that the project teams are striving to both streamline process flow while ensuring consistency of product.
Our approach to processes is that the resources used either add value or they do not. The resources consumed (such as people, time or equipment) that do NOT add value, add cost and are considered waste.

Different types of waste include:
  • Overproduction – making more than needed
  • Inventory – having more than needed
  • Repair/Rejects – waiting on machine, parts, people, and information
  • Motion – excess movement (turning, twisting, bending, walking)
  • Over processing – processing unnecessary steps
  • Transport – moving material, information, and people
  • Waiting – people, product, or information in queue
  • Defects – products, information
An important focus point for TriMark employees is to always remember that our customers determine value. An activity can be described as adding value for the customer only if:

  • the customer recognizes the value and would pay for it and;
  • it changes the "product" toward something the customer expects; and
  • it is done right the first time.
Next Issue: We delve more deeply into the TriMark application to Lean and Six Sigma.

050-0400 Floating Striker Single Rotor Latch Product Feature

Withstanding the test of time and severe applications, this product has recently reached a major milestone of 1 million total units sold. Originally introduced in 1991, this platform has seen record sales and units over the past several years and is a popular product for the construction equipment market. The robust single rotor latch has a unique rotor and catch design that allows the door to rack vertically .143 in. (3.63mm) in high vibration applications. A secondary benefit of the design is that it is easier for customers to install and adjust because the target area is larger and the latch is more forgiving. Applications vary from personnel doors, compartment doors, hoods/access panels as well as door hold-open applications.

This proven latch is designed for medium to heavy duty applications and features a variety of trip levers and mounting axles for ease of mounting/application and is available in FMVSS 206 and non-FMVSS 206 versions.

Please visit the TriMark website for additional information.

TriGuard Product Family Gains Market Momentum

TriMark continues to expand its TriGuard line of heavy duty latches, linkages, handles and door modules, with engineered standard components specifically designed for the heavy duty armored vehicle applications. Drawing on its 35 years of knowledge and expertise from working in heavy duty door latch and hardware systems, during the past year TriMark has introduced several door modules specifically developed for heavy duty armored vehicle applications. You now can choose from exterior/interior door handles, three types of blast locks, TriMark's proven 030-0850 latch/striker module and several release lock actuation modules.

These robust door product/systems simplify vehicle and field attachment with reduced attachment points and door assembly. Already proven in several blast tests, the 050-0850 heavy duty latch/striker survives in punishing environments and provides rotor/cam assist to heavy doors/armor, hinges, compensating for door sag. These products can be used on retrofit, up-armor applications or new surface mount vehicle construction and can be purchased as separate products or complete one-piece modules ready for installation. In addition, the TriGuard lines of products are fully compatible offering flexibility and adaptability to suit your specific application needs.

Designed as one-piece construction, these door modules simplify vehicle and field attachment with only 4 or 5 attachment points. The flexible, heavy duty design and manufacturing allows for custom configurations to suit your application needs.

The exterior and interior door handles are fabricated from high strength plate steel and feature modular attach/quick detach, 1000 hour Cass protection, and soft touch coating. Blast locks are available in a rotational, slam action or piston/axial type mechanisms and feature cable or rod actuation, standardized mounting for topside/bottom use and high strength steel case with heat-treated latching components. All of these products are purpose designed, simple to integrate, installs quickly, are easy to customize and feature robust construction.

TriMark has a dedicated team of engineers that can rapidly respond to your needs with hardware knowledge and expertise ultimately providing "Turn Key" solutions. TriMark has also invested in rapid production laser and form cells to provide maximum flexibility to meet your tight lead times for prototypes and production orders without expensive tooling and long lead times.
